Olympic Trial qualifiers

1976 - Tony Bartle ('75)

A 1975 North Penn graduate, Tony Bartle was a team captain at U.C.L.A. He was an NCAA finalist in the 200 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 800 free relay, and 400 free relay. Tony placed 4th in the 200 meter butterfly at the 1976 Olympic Trials, missing the team only by one spot. His time was the world's fourth fastest at the time. Four years later he was a member of the 1980 honorary Olympic traveling team.

1996 - Derek Williams ('92)

After graduating from North Penn in 1992, Derek Williams swam for the University of Minnesota where he later became a Big 10 champion. He qualified for the 1996 Olympic Trials in the 100 butterfly. At one point Derek had the sixth fastest time in the world in that event.

2000 - Dominick Szabo ('00)

A 2000 graduate of North Penn, Dominick Szabo qualified for the 2000 Olympic Trials in the 100 and 200 meter breaststrokes. His state record time in the 200 yard individual medley (1:49.86) was also a qualifying time, but it could not be considered because of the cross-over turn (from backstroke to breaststroke) that high school rules allow. At the trials, out of about 80 swimmers, Dominick finished 21st and 23rd in the 100 and 200 meter breaststrokes with times of 1:04.14 and 2:20.94 respectively.
